2024 August Banksy’s busy week- 2024年8月・多忙なバンクシー
Goat by Banksy
August 2024
It was a busy August for Banksy. Surprisingly, nine artworks appeared throughout London, one each day over more than a week—all featuring animals as their theme.
The artworks were revealed in the following order:
① Goat
② Elephant
③ Monkey
④ Wolf
⑤ Pelican
⑥ Cat
⑦ Piranha
⑧ Rhino
⑨ Gorilla
Unfortunately, the first piece, Goat (pictured above), was removed in February due to a full-scale renovation of the building. While it is reportedly being kept in storage, it remains unclear whether it will be returned to its original location in the Kew Gardens area. Banksy's representatives have declined to comment.
The Wolf (④) was painted on a satellite dish but was stolen just hours later and remains missing.
The Cat (⑥) was painted on a billboard and has already been taken down.
The Gorilla (⑨) was painted on the gate of the London Zoo and is now kept within the zoo premises.
As for the rest—I went to see them on my own two feet :)
2. Elephant
10 Edith Terrace, Edith Grove, on SW10 0TQ
I went the morning after the artworks were revealed, but it was too bright! :) So I adjusted the lighting.
This piece is located in a corner of Chelsea, one of London’s upscale residential areas. Across from it is the local church, Chelsea Community Church.
3. Monkey
176c Brick Ln, London E1 6SA
Brick Lane in East London, where this artwork is located, is known as "Banglatown," as I mentioned in a previous blog. It’s a lively area filled with rich ethnic charm and is also a mecca for street art.
The Monkey appeared on a wall under the railway bridge—it's in a highly visible spot, so you won’t miss it!
There are other Banksy pieces nearby, and simply walking around to explore the street art makes for a fun experience.
5. Pelican
Pretoria Ave, London E17 7EB
About a 10-minute walk from Blackhorse Road Station on the Victoria Line, you’ll find this piece. The way the pelican cleverly picks up the fish from the shop sign is adorable.
It’s in a quiet residential area with not much around, but it’s relatively close to the William Morris Gallery in Walthamstow. Visiting both makes for a rewarding trip—plus, they’re both free!
7. Fish
71 Basinghall St, City of London, London EC2V 7HH
It is scheduled to be relocated to the Museum of London, which is set to open in the Smithfield district in 2026.
Originally, there was a police sentry box along the road near St. Paul’s Cathedral, but it is now housed inside the Guildhall building.
8. Rhino
83 Westmoor St, London SE7 8NQ
