Windsor Castle

Winsdor Castle

Estimated Duration: 2.5 to 3 hours

Windsor Castle, which is not far from London, boasts over 900 years of history and is the world's largest and oldest royal residence. It was a favorite of Queen Elizabeth, who had a deep connection with the castle. She spent her weekends at the castle, not only during her childhood but also after her ascension. During World War II, it served as a refuge.

Following the state funeral at Westminster Abbey in September 2022, Queen Elizabeth's coffin was buried in the St. George's Chapel within the castle. She rests alongside her beloved partner, Prince Philip, her father King George VI, and her mother, the Queen Mother.

Furthermore, the chapel is spiritual home of the Order of the Garter, oldest and highest in English chivalry.

The chapel is closed on Sundays.

After exploring the grounds of Windsor Castle, take a walk through the grand State Apartments, which were extensively modernized in the 17th century for King Charles II and his queen. These apartments feature beautiful wood carvings by Grinling Gibbons and splendid ceiling paintings by Antonio Verrio. The rooms are adorned with some of the finest artworks from the Royal Collection Trust.

Please note that there is an additional admission fee for visiting, and the opening hours may change without notice, so it is recommended to confirm in advance.
